School Improvement Plan

Mission Statement: The mission of Aviano High School is to guide our students to become knowledgeable, skilled, and positively involved global citizens who are independent thinkers committed to life-long learning.

Core Commitments:

• We commit to being productive and organized by focusing on what is important and encouraging each other in positive ways.
• We commit to creating a stimulating environment in which we take time to talk to one another and share ideas.
• We commit to sharing our ideas, listening to each other, and following through on any consensus.
• We commit to building a positive, trusting work environment in which we support and trust each other while maintaining a sense of humor.

Target Goals:

1. All students will improve their communication skills across the curriculum.
   We define communication as an ability to organize and present information in speaking, writing or multimedia. This includes writing strategies and editing skills.
2. All students will improve their critical reading skills across the curriculum.
   We define critical reading as an ability to summarize what has been read, make predictions, determine the main idea, and interpret an analyze test and graphical representations.

Interventions:

• Instructional  Intervention – Goal 1
  Teachers will use a variety of instructional strategies that will assist students in organizing and presenting information in speaking, writing, or multimedia.
• Instructional Intervention – Goal 2
  Teachers will use a variety of instructional strategies that will assist students in summarizing what has been read, making predictions, determining the main idea, and interpreting and analyzing text and graphical representations.
• Communication Intervention
  The school will develop and incorporate a variety of ways to share information with parents about the ways in which their children are learning to become better communicators.
•  SHC Partnership Intervention
  The school will develop and incorporate a variety of ways to involve parents in helping their children to become better communicators.
• Technology Intervention
  The school will continue to further develop and utilize technology to help students become better communicators.
